On Monday, AMAZING SPIDER MAN 2 director Marc Webb took to Twitter to reveal news of yet another villain, A. Smythe, who will appear in the highly anticipated superhero sequel.

In a post to promote a new book published by "The Office" star B.J. Novak, (who was cast in the film without any details as to which role he would play), Webb revealed: "Almost shot ASM2 in B+W til @bjnovak's (A. Smythe) promo for his excellent book ONE MORE THING beat me to it."

According to MTV News, "A. Smythe" refers to 'Alistair Smythe', "a scientist who lives in the shadow of his legendary father, Spencer Smythe. In the comics, Spencer creates a series of robots called Spider-Slayers, designed specifically to apprehend Spider-Man. Spencer dies as a result of his failed technology, and Alistair inherits his father's work, eventually transforming into a monstrous Spider-Slayer himself."

Stay tuned as more details emerge!

THE AMAZING SPIDER MAN 2, starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, Paul Giamatti and Sally Field, hits theaters on May 2, 2014.

The official synopsis is as follows:

We've always known that Spider-Man's most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibiites of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

It's great to be Spider-Man. For Peter Parker, there's no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen. But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city.

With the emergence of Electro, Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: Oscorp.
