According to Variety, the hit series Big Little Lies will be back for season two. But some of the show's awards competitors are not at all thrilled with the news that the former "limited series" has taken on the dimensions of an "episodic drama". calling the show's many nominations at various awards ceremonies into question.
HBO announced Friday that the hit show would be returning for a highly anticipated second season. In light of the news competitors are said to be "fuming" as the show has regularly been nominated in (and won) limited series or movie categories.
The news is especially jarring to industry insiders as it coincides with the completion of voting at a number of awards ceremonies including the Critics' Choice Awards and Golden Globe Awards, and just before the beginning of voting for the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
On Friday night, the PGA responded to the controversy with a letter stating that the organization would "re-set the voting" for its television nominations. The re-set will put the show in the Episodic Drama category "for which it now is qualified."
The show is based on the novel of the same name by Liane Moriarty, and stars Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, and Shailene Woodley.
