BBC Two has commissioned The Garden Productions to make a major primetime series looking at families across the UK, as a newborn arrives in their world.
The Arrival (w/t) will capture every moment in the weeks immediately following birth - amongst the most intense and extraordinary times of any family.
Anyone who has brought a baby home knows the unconditional love that new babies can bring and how a family can move from utter exhaustion to elation in a matter of moments. Having a baby is a universal experience, but it is one we all navigate in different ways. By filming with all kinds of families from all walks of life, this series will give us a window into MODERN FAMILY life in Britain in 2019.
Shot with a mixture of traditional filming and fixed-rig cameras, this will be a chance to tell the real story of parenting a newborn with truth, humour and detail that is rarely possible. The series will follow the families from the lead up to the birth, as their new-born enters the world and the weeks after their baby is brought home. It will detail the way a family adjusts to life with the new arrival. This will be a celebratory series as much about families and relationships as the babies themselves.
Emma Loach, BBC Commissioning Editor, says: "I'm excited to bring this ambitious new series to BBC Two as families share one of the most extraordinary experiences of their lives with us.
