Deadline.com reports that BBC Three has commissioned a one-hour documentary covering the July 20th shooting spree at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado. Twelve lives were lost in the tragedy which took place during a screening of the new Warner Bros. action film The Dark Knight Rises.

Mentorn Media, a British production house, will produce the film to be titled, The Batman Shootings. The film's narrator, Amal Fashanu, will interview survivors of the event and explore the heated issue of gun control in America.

The documentary's executive producer Steve Anderson said in a statement: “Columbine, Virginia Tech, Aurora – and even this weekend the shootings at the Sikh Temple in Milwaukee in which seven people were killed – the list of gun massacres in the USA grows ever longer. America is mainly split on the issue of gun controls – this film concentrates on what young people there think should happen now”.

The Batman Shootings is set to air in the UK on August 23.
