According to The Hollywood Reporter, BBC One has greenlit a British version of the long-running U.S. comedy series EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND. The pilot, to be titled "The Smiths", will star comedian Lee Mack and 'The Office's Catherine Tate.

Set in Cheshire, England, the project will follow "a man who lives opposite his overbearing family." Mack, who penned the script, will star in the 'Raymond' role while Tate will take on the role played by Patricia Heaton in the popular ABC series. The pilot will be shot in front of a live studio audience in late May.

EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND starred Ray Romano, Patricia Heaton, Brad Garret, Doris Roberts, andPeter Boyle. It originally ran on CBS from September 13, 1996, to May 16, 2005. Many of the situations from the show are based on the real-life experiences of Romano, creator/producer Phil Rosenthal and the show's writing staff. The main characters on the show are also loosely based on Romano's and Rosenthal's real-life family members.
