Holy Blood: Mexican Horror Cinema

Since the late 1950s, Mexico has produced its own rich and distinctive strain of horror cinema, combining supernatural tales of witches and vampires with regional folklore, head-spinning surrealism, and heaps of creepy Gothic atmosphere. These high water marks of the genre include Guillermo Del Toro's lush Cronos (1993-Oct 27) and Alejandro Jodorowsky's Santa Sangre (1989-Oct 28). True West: Sam Shepard on Film

With the recent passing of Sam Shepard, the film and theater worlds lost one of their most immense talents, a Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and celebrated actor who left an indelible mark on both mediums while exploring the mythologies of masculinity and the American West. This series spotlights the many sides of Shepard's career, showcasing his work as an actor in Days of Heaven (Malick, 1978-Nov 3), The Right Stuff (Kaufman, 1983-Nov 5), and Frances (Clifford, 1982-Nov 9), as well as his work as a screenwriter working with auteurs like Wim Wenders with Paris, Texas (1984-Nov 4) and Don't Come Knocking (2005-Nov 4), Michelangelo Antonioni with Zabriskie Point (1970-Nov 5), and Robert Altman with the screen adaptation of Shepard's play Fool for Love (1985-Nov 8). The series also includes: Me and My Brother (Frank, 1969-Nov 6), screening with Tongues (Clarke, 1982-Nov 6), Resurrection (Petrie, 1980-Nov 7), and Far North (Shepard, 1993-Nov 8).
