Giles is gearing up for his return to television.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Anthony Stewart Head, the acclaimed BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER alum, has officially signed on to join The CW's reworked THE SELECTION.

THE SELECTION tells the tale of "an Epic romance set 300 years in the future in which a poor young woman (Yael Grobglas) is chosen by lottery to participate in a competition to become the next queen of a war-torn nation at a crossroads."

Head will take on a royal role, that of King Clarkson, head of the family that controls the dystopian nation. Clarkson is a leader well-versed in politics. Head replaces Martin Donovan, who took on the role when the network originally ordered the pilot.

The series also stars Sean PatRick Thomas, Peta Sergeant, Celia Massingham, and Lucien Laviscount.

Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain of The Vampire Diaries are set to write and executive produce the pilot, which Alex Graves has been tapped to direct.
