Anne Hathaway will star in the film version of David Nicholls' novel 'One Day,' the Associated Press' Edwardsville Intelligencer reports. The story deals with a romance between a working-class woman (Hathaway) and a rich man (Jim Sturgess).
Nicholls will adapt his best-selling novel for the screen, and Academy Award nominee Lone Scherfig ('An Education') will direct. The film will be produced by Focus Features and Random House Films. 'One Day' is scheduled to begin filming this summer and to be released next year.
Anne Hathaway's film credits include 'The Princess Diaries,' 'Brokeback Mountain,' 'The Devil Wears Prada,' 'Becoming Jane,' 'Alice in Wonderland,' and 'Rachel Getting Married,' for which she was nominated for an Academy Award. Hathaway played Viola in Shakespeare in the Park's 2009 production of TWELFTH NIGHT. She also appeared as Lili in CARNIVAL! at Encores.
Jim Sturgess's film credits include 'Across the Universe,' 'The Other Bolyen Girl,' and '21.' He is also a songwriter.
