USA Today reports that a documentary, based on the life of troubled singer Amy Winehouse is now in the works at Focus Features International. The British star passed away from alcohol poisoning at age 27 in 2011.
AP reported today that the family of Winehouse revealed in a statement that among the many offers they had been approached with for a documentary on their daughter, they decided to go with director Asif Kapadia and producer James Gay-Rees's because they presented a vision that would "look at Amy's story sensitively, honestly and without sensationalizing her."The duo worked together on 2010's Senna which followed the life of Brazilian F1 driver Ayrton Senna who was killed in a 1994 accident.Billboard reports that Kapadia and Gay-Rees revealed in a statemen,t "This is an incredibly modern, emotional and relevant film that has the power to capture the zeitgeist and shine a light on the world we live in in a way that very few films can."
