To mark the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy, AMERICAN EXPERIENCE will stream its acclaimed 2004 portrait, RFK from June 5 through Labor Day on its site. Written and directed by David Grubin and produced by Grubin and Sarah Colt, the acclaimed two-hour film traces RFK's RISE in public life, from attorney general in his brother's administration to his 1968 campaign for president that tragically ended with an assassin's bullet.
After the assassination of John F. Kennedy, Bobby KENNEDY was bereft, having lost not only a beloved brother, but a role that had given meaning to his life. He had suppressed his own ambitions for the sake of the KENNEDY name, serving as his brother's most trusted aide, and the loss left him struggling to find his own voice. In his suffering, he found common ground with others who were hurting, marginalized or deprived of their civil rights. Just as he began to discover his own identity and move BEYOND the shadow of his brother, KENNEDY was assassinated during a campaign event at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles shortly after midnight on June 5, 1968.
RFK features interviews with historians, journalists and biographers including Robert Dallek, Anthony Lewis, Jeff Shesol, and Ronald Steel, as well as ?rsthand recollections of those who knew him well: Peter Edelman, Richard Goodwin, Nicholas Katzenbach, John Seigenthaler, Adam Walinsky, Jack New?eld, Roger Wilkins, Harris Wofford and RFK's daughter, Kathleen KENNEDY Townsend.
