America Ferrera is headed back to the small screen.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the former UGLY BETTY star has signed on to lead NBC's upcoming comedy pilot SUPERSTORE.

The project is descibed "as a comedy about a disparate group of employees working at a big-box store in middle America, and the love story that will ultimately unfold among them.

Ferrera will star as Amy, who has been working at CLOUD 9 for 10 years as a floor supervisor. The character is initially put off by newbie Jonah's (Ben Feldman, A to Z) unconsciously superior attitude and the fact that he clowns around on the job. Despite a rocky start, the two quickly bond as Jonah gets Amy to find more joy at work, and she starts to become quite allured by the new hire."

Ferrera will also executive produce.

Ferrera is perhaps best known for playing the lead role in the television comedy series Ugly Betty. She has also starred in Real Women Have Curves, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, its sequel Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, and The Dry Land, and had a small role in the skateboard biopic Lords of Dogtown (2005).

In addition, she was the voice of Astrid the Viking in the Dreamworks animated picture How to Train Your Dragon. In December 2005, she appeared in the off-Broadway play Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead, directed by Trip Cullman.
