Showtime's Masters of Sex has seduced Allison Janney.

Janney is officially set for a five-episode arc on the premium network's upcoming drama, starring Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan, who will portray the real-life pioneers of the science of human sexuality, William Masters and Virginia Johnson.

The acclaimed actress will take on the role of Margaret Scully, the wife of university provost Barton Scully, played by Beau Bridges.

The series chronicles the unusual lives, romance, and pop culture trajectory of Masters and Johnson. Their research touched off the sexual revolution and took them from a mid-western teaching hospital in St. Louis to the cover of Time magazine and nearly a dozen appearances on Johnny Carson's couch.

Caitlin Fitzgerald (It's Complicated), Nicholas D'Agosto (Heroes), and Teddy Sears (American Horror Story) also star. Bridges and Emmy Award winner Margo Martindale also star.

The series is an adaptation of Thomas Maier's book Masters of Sex: The Life and Times of William Masters and Virginia Johnson, The Couple Who Taught America How to Love. The pilot was directed by Academy Award nominee John Madden (Shakespeare in Love, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel).

Produced by Sony Pictures Television, Michelle Ashford (The Pacific) and Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly (Justified, A Gifted Man) serve as executive producers.

Janney is best known for her role as C.J. Cregg on the television series The West Wing (1999-2006), for which she won four Primetime Emmy Awards, a Satellite Award and four Screen Actors Guild Awards and was nominated for four Golden Globe Awards, an AFI Award and a further two Primetime Emmy Awards, a Satellite Award and seven Screen Actors Guild Awards. Her films include Big Night (1996), Primary Colors (1998), Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999), American Beauty (1999), The Hours (2003), Hairspray (2007), Juno (2007) and The Help (2011).
