Alexander Ludwig, Vanessa Hudgens, and Charles Melton have joined the cast of "Bad Boys 4 Life," according to Variety. They will join stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in Sony's sequel.

Hudgens, Ludwig, and Melton play a modern, highly specialized police unit that collides with the old school Bad Boys (Smith and Lawrence) when a new threat emerges in Miami.

The film is being directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah from a script by Peter Craig with Joe Carnahan doing a rewrite. The current writer is Chris Bremmer.

Jerry Bruckheimer returns as producer with Doug Belgrad and Smith. BARRY Waldman, Mike Stenson, Chad Oman, and James Lassiter are executive producers.

Joe Pantoliano is set return as Captain Howard.

The film will begin shooting next month and is set for theatrical release on January 17, 2020.

Ludwig broke out as the villain Cato in "The Hunger Games." He's also had roles in "Lone Survivor" and "Grown Ups 2." Ludwig also joined the cast of History Channel's "Vikings" and is currently one of the series' leads.

Hudgens most recently starred in the Netflix film "The Princess Switch," and can be seen next in the comedy "Second Act." In 2019, she can be seen in the Netflix thriller "Polar" and the FOX live event, "Rent: Live."

Melton can currently be seen as Reggie on CW's "Riverdale" and previously appeared in "American Horror Story" and "Glee."
