Alex Trebek to Retire As JEOPARDY Host?

In an interview with Fox News Host Chris Wallace which aired Sunday, May 6th, long-time JEOPARDY host Alex Trebek revealed that he is considering retiring from the program.

Shared Trebek, “Yes, I have been thinking of retiring. But I’m torn because I enjoy doing the show so much. A lot of people have been telling me - 'Alex, you’ve got to go for at least 30. You've just done 28. Now at least do two more.' So that has a nice ring to it. Put in your 30. And go help people.”

JEOPARDY! was renewed in 2010 for an additional four years, ensuring that the game show would remain on air until 2014. At that time, Trebek extended his contract with Sony as well.

In a February 2011 interview with Newsweek magazine, the long-time host commented, "I don't want to do this forever."

JEOPARDY! first came on the air in 1964 on NBC with TV personality Art Fleming serving as host. Fleming hosted the series from 1964-1975 and 1978-1979. After a five year hiatus, the show returned to TV in syndication in 1984, with Trebek taking on the hosting duties.
