Adult Swim's Total Day performance in January 2013 ranked #1 among adults 18-24, 18-34 & 18-49 and men 18-24 &18-34 on basic cable. Compared to January 2012, Total day delivery earned double-digit growth among all target demos - adults 18-24 grew by 18%, adults 18-34 by 12%, adults 18-49 by 13%, men 18-24 by 14%, men 18-34 by 13%, and men 18-49 by 11%.
Adult Swim ranked #3 in Prime Time delivery of adults 18-34 among all basic cable networks. Compared to December 2012, Prime delivery also increased by double-digits across the board, ranging between 15% and 25%.
New episodes of Robot Chicken in January (Sundays, 12 a.m.) ranked #1 in the time period among all key adults & men, growing by double digits across the board vs. the same time period last year, ranging between 54% and 79%.
Adult Swim's newest original series, Newsreaders (premiered Thursday, January 17, 12 a.m.) has earned significant growth vs. last year's time period, growing mostly by double digits: adults 18-24 grew by 12%, adults 18-34 by 22%, adults 18-49 by 35%, men 18-24 by 20%, men 18-34 by 27% and men 18-49 by 37%.
Adult Swim programming accounted for 15 of the top 50 telecasts on basic cable for the month among adults 18-34.
TBS
TBS got the year off to a strong start by ranking as basic cable's #1 entertainment network among adults 18-34 and adults 18-49 in primetime for January. The network also topped all basic cable networks for the final week of January in primetime delivery of those two key demos.
TBS's Cougar Town brought in more than 2.5 million viewers in Live + 3 delivery for last Tuesday's episode. Among TBS's key demos, the series drew 722,000 adults 18-34 and 1.5 million adults 18-49. Meanwhile, time-shifted viewing has lifted the Jan. 8 season premiere of Cougar Town to a final Live + 7 tally of 2.9 million viewers, with 880,000 adults 18-34 and 1.9 million adults 18-49.
In its second week, TBS's new competition series King of the Nerds garnered 1.7 million viewers and more than 1 million adults 18-49 in Live + Same Day delivery. Among TBS's key young adults demo, the show grew +3% over its season premiere, with 605,000 adults 18-34.
Continuing its reign from 2012, The Big Bang Theory on TBS ranked as basic cable's #1 sitcom in January among total viewers, adults 18-34 and adults 18-49.
Last week in late night, TBS's Conan averaged 875,000 viewers in Live + Same Day, a +2% boost over the prior week. Key demos were up significantly as the series delivered 303,000 adults 18-34 (+10%) and 585,000 adults 18-49 (+7%). For the month of January, Conan saw growth among adults 18-34, which were up 5% compared to December. In time-shifted viewing for the week of Jan. 7th, Conan grew its audience to 1.1 million viewers in Live + 7, with 361,000 adults 18-34 and 706,000 adults 18-49.
Cartoon Network
Across January 2013, Cartoon Network ranked as basic cable's #1 destination for Total Day delivery of boys 9-14. Overall, Total Day delivery of kids 9-14 grew by 3%, compared to January 2012.
Cartoon Network also scored as the #1 TV destination for all boys 2-11, 6-11 & 9-14 on Monday and Thursday nights (7-9 p.m.), while #1 among boys 6-11 on Wednesday nights and #1 among boys 9-14 on Friday nights.
Cartoon Network's newest original series, the live-action sketch comedy show Incredible Crew (Thursday, 8 p.m.) premiered on Jan. 24, ranking #1 in its time period among all boys 2-11, 6-11 & 9-14. Delivery across all targeted kids and boys demos grew mostly by double digits vs. the 2012 time period - kids 2-11 increased by 6%, kids 6-11 by 19%, kids 9-14 by 16%, boys 2-11 by 19%, boys 6-11 by 26% and boys 9-14 by 18%.
Among the network's original animated programming, Regular Show (Mondays, 8 p.m.) and Adventure Time (Mondays, 7:30 p.m.) each ranked #1 in their respective timeslots among boys 2-11 & 6-11. Both series earned significant delivery gains in January across all kids and boys demos, ranging between 4% and 24%.
On Saturday Morning, premiere episodes of Pokemon BW: Rival Destinies (8:30 a.m.) and Ben 10: Omniverse (9 a.m.) each ranked #1 among boys 9-14, posting double-digit growth across all kids & boys demos vs. last year, ranging between 12% and 31%. Additionally, original series Star Wars: The Clone Wars (9:30 a.m.) increased all kids and boys deliveries vs. last year's time period, ranging between 24% and 45%.
truTV
truTV turned in a strong performance this month, ranking as one of basic cable's Top 10 entertainment networks in January primetime among adults 18-49 (596,000), men 18-49 (318,000) and men 18-34 (143,000). In addition, truTV's primetime median age of 41 matched its youngest January figures ever. It's also younger than such non-fiction competitors as A&E (47), Discovery (44), History (52), Spike (43) and TLC (42).
truTV's Lizard Lick Towing returned for its third season Monday night at 10 p.m. (ET/PT), drawing a total of 2.9 million viewers to give the hit series its most-watched episode ever. Lizard Lick Towing's season premiere grew considerably compared to the show's second season launch, with total viewers up 30%, men 18-49 up 30% and adults 18-49 up 5%.
Lizard Lick Towing was followed at 10:30 by the series premiere of Swamp Hunters, which was watched by 1.7 million viewers. Among truTV's key demos, Swamp Hunters brought in 762,000 adults 18-49; 304,000 adults 18-34; 393,000 men 18-49; and 132,000 men 18-34.
truTV's hit series Impractical Jokers (Thursday at 10 p.m.) averaged 2.3 million viewers in January, including 1.5 million adults 18-49; 745,000 men 18-49; 840,000 adults 18-34; and 408,000 men 18-34. The show ranked among ad-supported cable's Top 5 programs in the timeslot with key adult and male demos, as well as total viewers. It also scored a remarkable median age of only 32, two years younger than the show's 2012 performance.
The breakout hit Hardcore Pawn garnered 2.9 million viewers last Tuesday night, making it ad-supported cable's #1 unscripted program in the 9 p.m. timeslot. For the month, the show scored Top 5 time-period rankings among total viewers (2.9 million); adults 18-49 (1.4 million); men 18-49 (815,000); and men 18-34 (349,000).
Full Throttle Saloon (Wednesdays at 9 p.m.) averaged more than 1.6 million viewers in January and scored Top 5 ad-supported cable rankings in its timeslot with adults 18-49 (1 million) and men 18-49 (597,000).
TNT
TNT and TBS's live simulcast of the Screen Actors Guild Awards(R) Sunday night drew a combined audience of 5.2 million viewers, making it the most watched program on basic cable for the final week of January. The show also delivered 2.1 million adults 18-49, up 5% compared to last year's simulcast.
TNT's Thursday night NBA telecast, featuring the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks, averaged nearly 2.5 million viewers and was the most-viewed sports program of the night on broadcast or cable.
NBA TV
NBA TV's NBA Fan Night presented by Sprint telecast (Jan. 22) featuring the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Los Angeles Clipper delivered 688,000 total viewers to rank as the second most-viewed NBA Fan Night of all time on the network. Through 51 telecasts, the Thunder/Clippers game is NBA TV's third most-viewed game this season. The network's 11 NBA Fan Night telecasts in 2012-13 are averaging 484,000 total viewers, up 6% compared with last season's average of 455,000 total viewers.
