The 3rd Annual Adirondack Film Festival, presented by the Adirondack Theatre Festival has announced its full slate of films and special guests. This year's lineup includes more than 100 films shown in one weekend (October 18-21) across 6 venues in Downtown Glens Falls. To open the festival, AFF will feature RADIUM GIRLS - shot in the Glens Falls and Lake George area, this marks the premiere screening for the area.
The Adirondack Film Festival includes 16 feature films. Highlights are a "zombie Christmas musical movie" entitled ANNA & THE APOCALYSPE screening at AFF before it hits theaters in December, Ethan Hawke's new love story biopic about Texas musician Blaze Foley, BLAZE, and the Audience Choice Award-winner at both Sundance and SXSW, Science FAIR. Other features include a documentary about Mr. Rogers (WON'T YOU BE MY NEIGHBOR?) and another about identical triplets adopted by three separate families (THREE IDENTICAL STRANGERS).
"Adirondack Film Festival has grown tremendously since its inception just three years ago. The quality of the films is better than ever. The amount of films we're screening is more than ever. And the festival's special events are bigger than ever," said Chad Rabinovitz, the festival's Producing Artistic Director. "We have more than 100 films and more than 100 filmmakers, actors, writers, directors, and artists attending the festival this year."
The festival will feature a selection of over 80 new short films from across the country curated to fit the following genres: Comedy, Drama, New York-Made, Documentary, and Experimental. Two of the short films, UNATTAINABLE and SINS OF THE SON, were shot within Glens Falls over the past year. THE SONG OF SWAY LAKE, a feature-length film starring Rory Culkin, was shot at Blue Mountain Lake in the Adirondacks.
The festival will feature a Comedy Panel with celebrity guests Sunita Mani (Glow), Scott Rogowsky (HQ Trivia), Ben Warheit (Late Night with Seth Meyers), and Diane Neal (Law & Order: SVU), moderated by Timothy Cooper (AFF Comedy award-winner).
Delphine Selles-Alvarez, Film Curator for the French Institute Alliance Francaise, will join AFF for a discussion about French filmmaking following the screening of MRS. HYDE - a new film starring Isabelle Huppert about a teacher struck by lightning who develops an alter ego. The film, screened at the Hyde Collection, will also feature an art gallery of French printmaking curated by the museum.
Special events also include three art galleries, including the TOONING IN gallery featuring nearly 150 pieces of art inspired by each of the festival's films, three official AFF parties along with an awards ceremony, and a free family series of international children's films.
A new addition to this year's festival is the inclusion of Virtual Reality. Through a partnership with Google Spotlight Series, AFF will screen their latest 12min virtual reality film, AGE OF SAIL. AFF will also add a BEST OF FEST this year - an entire day (Sunday, Oct. 21) dedicated to the films that the audience has voted as their favorite.
