Eight Food Addicts Face Their Compulsions in "Addicted to Food" Premiering Tuesday, April 5 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network
"Addicted to Food" is the new original series on OWN that follows eight eating disorder patients (both over and under eaters) at treatment facility Shades of Hope as they work to put the pieces of their lives back together, premiering Tuesday, April 5 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
The focus of this series is not the weight loss, but the underlying struggles of their past that have prevented them from overcoming their food addiction. Tennie McCarty, Shades of Hope founder and therapist, works directly with each patient to help them face their past so they can take positive steps toward their future.
Throughout the series, viewers get an unprecedented look into the patients daily life in treatment as they are put on strict diet requirements, their bathroom breaks are monitored to prevent purging and they undergo specific experiential therapeutic challenges to build positive behaviors in an effort to break the cycle of addiction - such as being restricted from speaking and having to carry around pillows as physical depictions of emotional baggage. As the patients adjust to the new lifestyle and are cut off from contact to the outside world, one patient shares a personal revelation, one bucks the system and walks out, and they all experience dramatic personal journeys as they makes strides to truly move forward with their lives.
"Addicted to Food" is produced by Tijuana EntertainmenT. Troy Searer and John Foy serve as executive producers. Annie Price serves as co-executive producer.
