Reality TV producer Adam DiVello, one of the driving forces behind MTV's hit series Laguna Beach who went on to create and executive produce the network's pop culture phenomenon The Hills, has entered into a multi-year overall television agreement with Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF) to create, develop and produce unscripted programming through his Done and Done Productions banner. The announcement was made today by Lionsgate Television Group Chairman Kevin Beggs.
DiVello first gained prominence as a producer on Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, which he also developed. The series, which introduced a new look and style to reality television that quickly caught on with viewers, followed the personal lives and exploits of a group of high school students and paved the way for DiVello's highly successful spin-off, The Hills, which ran for six seasons on MTV. Focusing on the drama-filled lives and careers of several young women including Laguna Beach's Lauren Conrad, the show became one of the most talked-about series on television and led to another spin-off, The City, which DiVello also created and executive produced.
"Adam is a terrific producer and we've long admired his trendsetting work," said Beggs. "We're delighted about this partnership, which will open up exciting new opportunities for the creation of unscripted content."
"I couldn't be happier to become the newest member of the Lionsgate family," said DiVello. "Having long been a fan of the content they produce and the quality with which it's done, I feel very fortunate to have them behind me and my company as we work to create compelling and innovative programming."
Lionsgate is accelerating its activities in unscripted television, with such recent additions to its slate as the upcoming Douglas Family Gold for
Oxygen and Hellavator for GSN, along with Christina Milian Turned Up, which will return for its second season on
E! this fall. Its successful partnerships with Eli Frankel's
ROGUE Atlas Productions, Dave Caplan's Trooper Entertainment, and Matt Kunitz's Pulse Creative have yielded a number of series, including Monica The Medium, which will debut on
ABC Family August 25 and DeSean Jackson: Home Team, which launched on BET in June.
