Deadline reports that Gary Cole has joined the cast of the new HBO comedy VEEP, starring Julia-Louis-Dreyfus. The actor will appear in a multi-episode story arc as a "Karl Rove-type" on the coming season.
VEEP follows the whirlwind day-to-day existence of Vice President Meyer (Louis-Dreyfus) as she puts out political fires, juggles a busy public schedule and demanding private life, and defends the president's interests, even as she tries to improve her dysfunctional relationship with the chief executive. The program received two Emmy nominations earlier this year, winning the 'Best Lead Actress' award for Louis-Dreyfus's performance.
On television, Cole had starring roles in the series Midnight Caller, American Gothic, and Crusade. On film, Cole appeared in supporting roles in The Brady Bunch Movie, Office Space, Dodgeball, and Talladega Nights. He last appeared on HBO in a guest spot on the recently-wrapped Entourage.
