As reported in Deadline, visionary director Ava DuVernay is set to direct the upcoming screen adaptation of THE NEW GODS, from DC and Warner Brothers. The comic book based story, from creator Jack Kirby, will get the film treatment with a script from Kario Salem. DuVernay is only the second women to direct a superhero franchise film, joining the company of WONDER WOMAN director Patty Jenkins. Read more about the news from Deadline here!
Winner of four Emmys, the Peabody Award and the BAFTA for Best Documentary, Ava DuVernay's Academy Award nominated "13th" was one of the most critically-acclaimed films of 2016. Previously, DuVernay directed the award-winning historical drama, "Selma," which garnered four Golden Globe nominations and two Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. Her current directorial work includes the ratings sensation "Queen Sugar" and the upcoming Disney fantasy epic, "A Wrinkle in Time."
Her most recent film, A WRINKLE IN TIME, was released this past week to much box office acclaim. The film, with a screenplay by Oscar winner Jennifer Lee, is based upon the beloved novel by Madeleine L'Engle, "A Wrinkle in Time" stars: two-time Academy Award(R) nominee Oprah Winfrey, Oscar and Emmy winner Reese Witherspoon, Emmy nominee Mindy Kaling, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michael Pe?a and introducing Storm Reid, with two-time Emmy winner Zach Galifianakis and Emmy nominee Chris Pine.
