Clapperboard UK's Director Maureen Sinclair is delighted to announce an exciting year ahead for Clapperboard UK, which includes a new partnership with BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) for the launch of #MeToo Media Merseyside project.
Supported by acclaimed, award-winning British actor, Maxine Peake (Peterloo, Silk, The Village, The Theory of Everything, Shameless), the #MeToo Media Merseyside project will be launched on Wed 6 March at FACT Picturehouse with a special screening of Maxine's low budget British feature film Funny Cow in association with the BFI.
Directed by Adrian Shergold, Funny Cow stars Paddy Considine, Stephen Graham, Alun Armstrong, Maxine Peake and John Bishop, featuring an outstanding film score by Richard Hawley. It tells the story of a comedian who uses her troubled past as material for her stand-up routine, trying to rise-up through the comedy.
To tie in with International Women's Day, the launch will also include an In Conversation with Maxine as well as acclaimed writer Jan McVerry (Coronation St, Cold Feet, The Street, Homefront, Drop Dead Gorgeous) following the screening.
A pioneering media project aimed at young people aged 14-26, #MeToo Media Merseyside will nurture the creative talents of this new generation. It will allow them to develop their own media website, challenging prejudices in all its forms through writing, and creating content by new voices for new voices.
Actor Maxine Peake said "I am so pleased to be supporting Clapperboard UK and its launch of #MeToo Media Merseyside. The work that they do encouraging and progressing people into the industry whilst at the same time challenging prejudice through film is commendable".
