American Idol may have crowned a new champion last night, but it certainly didn't end its 13th season with the ratings crown.
According to TVLine.com, Wednesday night's season finale was viewed by 10.1 million total viewers and scored a 2.6 demo rating, an increase of 12 and 24 percent week-to-week however down 29 and 28 percent from last season's finale.
Yet the news is not all bad for FOX's former juggernaut. According to initial ratings results, Idol beat the final episode of CBS's Survivor which delivered 9.5 million viewers and a 2.5 rating, down 7 percent versus a year ago.
The true champ of the evening was ABC's Modern Family season ender which brought in the largest audience of the night, 10.2 million, and a demo rating of 3.6, marking a 12 percent week-to-week increase and down just one tenth from its previous finale.
FOX recently confirmed that American Idol will return in 2015 for its 14th season.
