ABC News' "World News Tonight with David Muir" stood as the No. 1 evening newscast in all key target demos for the 2nd week running: Total Viewers (8.250 million), Adults 25-54 (2.032 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.410 million) for the week of April 6, 2015, based on Live +Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. This represented the first time in more than 7 1/2 years that "World News Tonight" won two consecutive weeks in all three key demos - since weeks of 8/13/07 and 8/20/07, respectively.
"World News Tonight's" No. 1 finish represented its first back-to-back Total Viewer win in more than 6 1/2 years - since weeks of 9/15/08 thru 9/22/08. In addition, "World News Tonight's" three-week run at No. 1 in Adults 18-49 is its longest in more than 7 1/2 years - since weeks of 9/17/07 thru 10/1/07. Further, "World News Tonight" won its 15th week of the season, its most number of wins at this point of a season in 19 years - since the 1995-96 season.
"World News Tonight" widened its leads over "NBC Nightly News" from its prior week's leads in Total Viewers (+171% - 228,000 vs. 84,000), Adults 25-54 (+18% - 190,000 vs. 161,000) and Adults 18-49 (+93% - 112,000 vs. 58,000). In fact, "World News Tonight" scored its biggest overall viewer lead in more than 6 1/2 years and biggest in Adults 18-49 in more than 7 1/2 years - since weeks of 9/8/08 and 10/1/07, respectively.
"World News Tonight" built on the year-ago week (7.176 million, 1.827 million and 1.224 million, respectively, for w/o 4/7/14) by double-digits in all three measures: Total Viewers (+15%), Adults 25-54 (+11%) and Adults 18-49 (+15%). World News Tonight" grew the most year to year versus "CBS Evening News" (+7%/+5%/+9%, respectively) and "NBC Nightly News" (-2%/-2%/-7%, respectively).
For the 2nd time in the last three weeks, "World News Tonight" posted week-to-week gains (7.997 million, 1.952 million and 1.286 million, respectively, for w/o 3/30/15) across all key target demos: Total Viewers (+3%), Adults 25-54 (+4%) and Adults 18-49 (+10%).
"World News Tonight" is averaging 521,000 more viewers, season to date, compared to the same time frame last season (8.755 million vs. 8.234 million), while "NBC Nightly News" is posting a 218,000 average loss (9.229 million vs. 9.447 million). For the 2nd year in a row, "World News Tonight" is improving versus the same point last season in both Total Viewers (+6%) and Adults 25-54 (+2%). "World News Tonight" is averaging its largest overall viewer audience in 8 years and strongest in the key adult news demo in 4 years - since the 2006-07 and the 2010-11 seasons, respectively. In addition, "World News Tonight" is improving the most in Total Viewers and standing as the only evening newscast to grow in Adults 25-54 compared to "CBS Evening News" (+2%/-3%) and "NBC Nightly News" (-2%/-8%).
Season to date, "World News Tonight" has slashed nearly all of its season margin with "NBC Nightly News" in Adults 25-54 (-94% - 16,000 vs. 251,000), delivering its closest news demo performance with the
NBC program in 7 years - since the 2007-08 season. In addition, "World News Tonight" cut its season gaps with "NBC Nightly News" by more than half in Total Viewers (-61% - 474,000 vs. 1.213 million) and Adults 18-49 (-60% - 115,000 vs. 290,000) to its closest performances in 7 years in both measures - since the 2007-08 season.
For the week, "World News Tonight" beat the "CBS Evening News" by 1.425 million Total Viewers, by 461,000 Adults 25-54 and by 331,000 Adults 18-49.
