ABC News' "World News Tonight with David Muir" averaged 7.647 million Total Viewers, 1.872 million Adults 25-54 and 1.263 million Adults 18-49 for the week of August 24, 2015, based on Live +Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.
"World News Tonight" improved on the year-ago week in Total Viewers (+4% - 7.647 vs. 7.383 million on w/o 8/25/14). The
ABC evening newscast has turned in year-to-year increases for the last 17 weeks.
"World News Tonight" was up on the previous week (1.832 million and 1.215 million, respectively, on w/o 8/17/15) in Adults 25-54 (+2%) and Adults 18-49 (+4%), delivering its best news demo performance in 5 weeks - since w/o 7/20/15.
Season to date, "World News Tonight" is averaging 477,000 more viewers, compared to the same time frame last season (8.326 million vs. 7.849 million), while "NBC Nightly News" is posting a 200,000 average loss (8.687 million vs. 8.887 million). For the 2nd year in a row, "World News Tonight" is improving versus the same point last season in both Total Viewers (+6%) and Adults 25-54 (+1%). In fact, "World News Tonight" is improving the most in Total Viewers and standing as the only evening newscast to grow in Adults 25-54 compared to "CBS Evening News" (+3%/-2%) and "NBC Nightly News" (-2%/-5%).
Season to date, "World News Tonight" has slashed its season margins with "NBC Nightly News" in Total Viewers (-65% - 361,000 vs. 1.038 million), Adults 25-54 (-85% - 24,000 vs. 155,000) and Adults 18-49 (-55% - 96,000 vs. 214,000), delivering its closest performances with the
NBC program in all three demos in 8 years - since the 2006-07 season.
"World News Tonight" is averaging its largest overall viewer audience in 8 years and strongest in the key adult news demo in 4 years - since the 2006-07 and the 2010-11 seasons, respectively.
For the week, "World News Tonight" beat the "CBS Evening News" by 1.149 million Total Viewers, by 457,000 Adults 25-54 and by 255,000 Adults 18-49.
NOTE: Due NFL Preseason, "CBS Evening News" was coded as a breakout on Friday (8/28/15) and the telecast was excluded from the weekly averages. CBS' averages are based on 4 days (Mon-Thurs).
