ABC's WORLD NEWS Airs No. 1 Telecast on on 5/23

For the week of May 20, 2013, "ABC World News with Diane Sawyer" averaged 7.35 million Total Viewers and a 1.6 rating/7 share/1.94 million in Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research. "World News" posted double-digit increases week-to-week among both Total Viewers (+10%) and Adults 25-54 (+17%) - 6.67 million and 1.67 million on w/o 5/13/13. In addition, the ABC evening newscast saw year-to-year growth in both overall viewers (+3%) and in the key adult news demo (+7%) - 7.17 million and 1.81 million on w/o 5/21/12.

"World News" aired the No. 1 telecast on Thursday (5/23/13) in Total Viewers, outdrawing "NBC Nightly News" by 105,000 viewers (7.130 million vs. 7.025 million).

"World News" narrowed its margins with "NBC Nightly News" from the previous week by double-digits in both Total Viewers (-14%, 692,000 vs. 807,000) and Adults 25-54 (-12%, 217,000 vs. 246,000). Decreasing its news demo margin for the 5th consecutive week, "World News" saw its closest performance with the NBC newscast in 2 months - since w/o 3/25/13.

Year-to-year, "World News" narrowed its Adults 25-54 margin with "NBC Nightly News" by -30% (217,000 vs. 311,000).

Season to date, "World News" has increased its Total Viewing audience (+3%) compared to the same point last season, drawing its most-watched season in 2 years - since the 2010-11 season. "World News" narrowed its margins with "NBC Nightly News" among both Total Viewers (-24%) and Adults 25-54 (-7%) to post its smallest margins in Total Viewers (789,000) and Adults 25-54 (325,000) with the NBC program in 4 years - since the 2008-09 season.

For the week, "World News" outperformed "CBS Evening News" by 1.34 million Total Viewers and by 337,000 Adults 25-54, leading the CBS program by its largest news demo margin in 17 months - since w/o 12/26/11.

For the May 2013 sweep, "ABC World News with Diane Sawyer" averaged 7.25 million Total Viewers and a 1.6 rating/7 share/1.84 million among Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research. "World News" improved on the previous sweep in Total Viewers (7.22 million - May 2012).

"World News" cut its margins with "NBC Nightly News" versus the previous sweep (February 2013) in both Total Viewers (-14% - 729,000 vs. 852,000) and Adults 25-54 (-6% - 268,000 vs. 284,000), posting its smallest sweep margin in the key news demo in 1 year - since May 2012.

"World News" led the CBS' "Evening News" by 1.09 million Total Viewers and by 250,000 Adults 25-54 viewers during the May 2013 sweep.
