ABC's MODERN FAMILY Solidifies Its #1 Ranking

Based on the Live + 7 Day ratings among Adults 18-49, ABC claimed TV's biggest gainer via time-shifted viewing for the 5th week running (with Modern Family), the biggest drama gainer through all 5 weeks of the new season (with Grey's Anatomy) and the biggest new drama gainer (with Once Upon a Time).

Modern Family solidified its rank as TV's #1 show of the week in Adults 18-49 (8.0 rating), increasing its advantage over runner-up CBS' Two and a Half Men to a full rating point (7.0). The ABC sitcom picked up an additional 4.39 million viewers and 2.3 rating points from its originally reported Live + Same Day numbers.

Based on Nielsen's final ratings for the week, ABC's Grey's Anatomy and newcomer Once Upon a Time tied as TV's #1 drama in the key young adult sales demo (5.2). In the originally reported Live + Same Day statistics, Grey's Anatomy ranked as the #4 drama, behind Once Upon a Time and CBS' NCIS and Criminal Minds, and moved up to #1 in the Live + 7 Day statistics, leading both CBS dramas by 4% (5.0).

Impressively, ABC had 8 shows gain more than 2 million viewers from their initially reported totals via time-shifted viewing, including the week's biggest overall gainer for the 5th week in a row: Modern Family (+4.39 million), Grey's Anatomy (+3.07 million), Castle (+2.82 million), Body of Proof (+2.64 million), Once Upon a Time (+2.54 million), Revenge (+2.54 million), Private Practice (+2.20 million) and Desperate Housewives (+2.08 million).

Among Adults 18-49, ABC saw 5 series add on more than a full rating point over their initially reported numbers: Modern Family (+2.3 rating - 5.7 to 8.0), Grey's Anatomy (+1.6 rating - 3.6 to 5.2), Once Upon a Time (+1.2 rating - 4.0 to 5.2), Private Practice (+1.2 rating - 2.3 to 3.5) and Revenge (+1.1 rating - 2.5 to 3.6).

Season-to-Date DVR Playback:

On average for the 2011-12 season, ABC's Modern Family and Grey's Anatomy are the season's Top 2 biggest gainers among Adults 18-49 (picking up 2.3 rating points and 1.6 rating points, respectively) and Once Upon a Time is the new season's #1 new drama gainer in the young adult demo (gaining 1.2 rating points). Modern Family is also the season's biggest overall gainer among Total Viewers (+4.60 million).
