From 8:00-10:00 p.m. against Fox's "American Idol"/"Hell's Kitchen" and original dramas on NBC ("Mysteries of Laura"/"Law & Order: SVU"), Part 1 of ABC's original movie "Madoff" ranked No. 1 in its 2-hour time period with an average audience of 7.028 million viewers. Part 1 of the 2-part movie held steady throughout its telecast, retaining all of its audience from its first half-hour to its final half-hour in Adults 25-54 (1.7/5) and Adults 18-49 (1.2/4).
Please Note: ABC's "Madoff" concludes tonight with Part 2 on Thursday (2/4/16) from 8:00-10:00 p.m.
"American Crime" (10:00-11:00 p.m. - 3.8 million and 0.8/3 in AD18-49):
A big gainer in TV Playback, "American Crime" was up 6% week to week in Live + Same Day Total Viewers (3.8 million vs. 3.6 million) and steady with Adults 18-49 (0.8/3 vs. 0.9/3), drawing its biggest overall audience in 3 weeks.
L+3 for Last Week's Telecast: With a 67% lift over its L+SD rating, "American Crime" scored a new playback high in Adults 18-49 and was Wednesday's top playback gainer on the broadcast networks. "American Crime" grew to a 1.5 rating in Adults 18-49 after 3 days of TV playback to tie its week-earlier number, after being down 1-tenth in L+SD.
Projections Rationale:
Lifts vs. L+SD are based on 2015-16 season averages for originals (excluding the premiere).
Returning shows: Profile based on same show (either premiere or averages for originals).
New Series: Based on similar series.
A note about DVR penetration: DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample is currently at 48% in U.S. TV Homes. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which are increasingly not reflected in the overnight Live + Same Day numbers. As a result, the Live + 7 Day ratings are the most accurate Nielsen measure to gauge the size of the TV audience.
