During the 2013-14 season, "GMA" stood as the No. 1 morning news program for the 2nd straight year in both Total Viewers and Adults 25-54, based on Most Current Data from Nielsen Media Research. "GMA" led NBC's "Today" 695,000 Total Viewers and 151,000 Adults 25-54. In fact, "GMA" further widened its season margins over "Today" versus last season in Total Viewers by 1% (695,000 vs. 688,000) and by a significant 76% in Adults 25-54 (151,000 vs. 86,000).
"GMA" posted its largest season margins over "Today" in both Total Viewers and Adults 25-54 in more than 22 years - since at least the 1991-92 season (Nielsen's electronic database started on September of 1991).
Growing in both measures for the 4th season in a row, "GMA" was up over last season in both Total Viewers (+5%) and Adults 25-54 (+7%). In fact, "GMA" saw its largest overall season audience in more than 22 years and best Adults 25-54 performance in 8 years - since before the 1991-92 season and the 2005-06 seasons, respectively. "GMA" is also up the most in Adults 25-54 compared to "CBS This Morning" (-3%) and NBC's "Today" (+4%).
3Q 2014:
"Good Morning America" scored an across-the-board victory for the 3rd Quarter 2014: Total Viewers (5.074 million), Adults 25-54 (1.878 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.344 million), based on Most Current Data from Nielsen Media Research. 3Q14 marked "GMA's" 9th quarter win in a row in Total Viewers and 8th straight in Adults 25-54. Further, after winning 2Q14, "GMA" turned in its first back-to-back Adults 18-49 quarter wins in 20 years - since 2Q94 and 3Q94, respectively.
"GMA" outdelivered "Today" (4.330 million, 1.652 million and 1.321 million) during 3Q14 by 744,000 Total Viewers, by 226,000 Adults 25-54 and by 23,000 Adults 18-49, beating the
NBC program by its largest news demo advantage during any quarter in more than 22 years - since 1Q92. In addition, "GMA" beat "Today" in Adults 18-49 for the first time during a 3rd quarter in 20 years - since 3Q94.
"GMA" improved on the year-earlier 3rd quarter (1.297 million, respectively for 3Q13) in Adults 18-49 (+4%) to draw its best performance in the demo in 6 years - since 3Q08. The "GMA" was also the only morning newscast to grow in Adults 18-49 as both "CBS This Morning" (-11%) and NBC's "Today" (-6%) posted losses.
"GMA" beat CBS' "Early Show" during 2Q14 by in Total Viewers by 79%, while more than doubling in Adults 25-54 (+117%) and Adults 18-49 (+131%). In fact, "GMA" led the
CBS program by its largest 3rd quarter advantages in 8 years in Adults 25-54 (1.011 million) and in 7 years in Adults 18-49 (763,000) - since 3Q06 and 3Q07, respectively.
Week of September 15, 2014:
"Good Morning America" won the final week of the 2013-14 season in Total Viewers (5.467 million) and Adults 25-54 (2.104 million) for the week of September 15, 2014, based on Live +Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. "GMA" beat the No. 2-ranked "Today" (4.611 million, and 1.841 million, respectively) by 856,000 Total Viewers and by 263,000 Adults 25-54 to deliver its largest margins of victory over the
NBC program since July - since w/o 7/21/14 and w/o 7/7/14, respectively. In addition, "GMA" increased its news demo lead over "Today" compared to its year-ago news demo to nearly 5 times (+396% - 263,000 vs. 53,000 on w/o 9/16/13). Additionally, GoodMorningAmerica.com on Yahoo! reached over 17 million users last month.
"GMA" turned in a dominant performance during the 2013-14 season in winning 50 of 52 weeks in Total Viewers and 48 of 52 in Adults 25-54. In fact, the
ABC morning newscast won all 30 weeks in overall viewers and the key adult news demo since the end of the 2014 Winter Olympics.
"GMA" has ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers in 112 of the last 116 weeks (since w/o 6/25/12), finishing behind "Today" only during the two weeks of the 2012 Summer Olympics and the two weeks of the 2014 Winter Olympics. In Adults 25-54, "GMA" outpaced its 2012-13 season performance of No. 1 finishes (43 of 51 weeks*).
For the 4th week running, "GMA" improved on the previous week (2.062 million and 1.468 million, respectively, on w/o 9/8/14) in Adults 25-54 (+2%) and Adults 18-49 (+2%), hitting a new 4-month high in both adult demos - since w/o 5/19/14.
During the week, "GMA" outperformed "CBS This Morning" in Total Viewers (+89%), Adults 25-54 (+131%) and Adults 18-49 (+141%).
