ABC News' "Good Morning America" finished as the No. 1 morning newscast in Total Viewers (5.976 million) for the week of February 3, 2014, according to Nielsen Media Research, standing as the most-watched morning newscast in all 20 weeks this season. Despite The 2014 Winter Olympics beginning on Thursday (2/6/13), "GMA" outperformed NBC's "Today" (5.818 million) during the week by 158,000 Total Viewers. In Adults 25-54, "GMA" ran neck and neck with "Today," as only 18,000 news demo viewers separated the two programs (2.370 million vs. 2.388 million), while tying in the rating (2.0). Additionally, GoodMorningAmerica.com on Yahoo! reached almost 20 million users last month.
"GMA" has ranked No. 1 every week in Total Viewers for more than 18 months (the last 77 weeks - since w/o 8/13/12). "GMA's" 77-consecutive weeks at the top represent its longest stretch at No. 1 in more than 22 years - since before the 1991-92 season (Nielsen's electronic database started in September 1991).
On Wednesday (2/6/14), "GMA" delivered the best single-day telecast for any morning newscast this season in Adults 25-54 (2.654 million). In fact, it was top Adults 25-54 morning telecast in 14 months - since a "Today" telecast on 11/7/12. Further, it was "GMA's" best news demo delivery in nearly 3 years (since 4/29/11 - the royal wedding) and 2nd-best in more than 5 years (since 11/5/08).
"GMA" turned in double-digit year-to-year increases (5.385 million, 2.043 million and 1.498 million, respectively, on w/o 2/4/13) across all key target demos: Total Viewers (+11%), Adults 25-54 (+16%) and Adults 18-49 (+12%). In fact, "GMA" has posted gains over the year-ago week for the last 6 weeks.
On Tuesday (2/11/14) of the current week, "GMA" outperformed "Today" by 412,000 Total Viewers (6.420 million vs. 6.008 million), standing as the first time ever that a network morning show that did not carry the Olympics won a morning - since the start of electronic records. In addition, it was the first-ever Daily Win for "GMA" over "Today" during the Olympic Games among Total Viewers - since the 1996 Games in Atlanta*, the Nielsen electronic database started in September 1991.
Season to date, "GMA" stands as the No. 1 morning news program for the 2nd-straight year in both Total Viewers and Adults 25-54. "GMA" is leading NBC's "Today" by 704,000 Total Viewers and 103,000 Adults 25-54. In fact, "GMA" has widened its season margins over "Today" versus the same point last season in Total Viewers by 34% (704,000 vs. 525,000) and in Adults 25-54 by 58% (103,000 vs. 65,000). Further, "GMA" is posting its largest Total Viewer season margin in more than 22 years and biggest in Adults 25-54 in 22 years - since at least the 1991-92 season (Nielsen's electronic database started on September of 1991) and the 1991-92 season, respectively.
Growing for the 3rd year in a row, "GMA" is up by double-digits over the same point last season in both Total Viewers (+12%) and Adults 25-54 (+13%). In fact, "GMA" is seeing its largest overall season audience in more than 22 years and best Adults 25-54 performance in 8 years - since before the 1991-92 season and the 2005-06 seasons, respectively. Further, "GMA" is up the most in Adults 25-54 compared to "CBS This Morning" (+3%) and NBC's "Today" (+11%)
During the week, "GMA" towered over "CBS This Morning" in Total Viewers (+78%) and Adults 18-49 (+96%), while more than doubled in Adults 25-54 (+105%).
