Opposite a down-to-the-wire SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL game (NY Giants-49ers) on NBC, an NFL overrun-boosted CBS (Patriots-Cowboys) and AMC with "The Walking Dead" premiere coverage (9:00-11:30 p.m.), ABC outdelivered FOX on Sunday by 2.3 million viewers (5.0 million and 2.7 million) and by 8% in Adults 18-49 (1.3/4 vs. 1.2/4).
ABC's "Quantico" (1.6/5), which doubled its lead-in at 10:00 p.m. (+100%), and "Once Upon a Time" (1.6/5) tied as Sunday's No. 1 scripted broadcast show in Adults 18-49, ahead of all three of CBS' NFL-fueled dramas and Fox's comedies. Last week's telecast of "Quantico" delivered increasing TV playback over its debut, jumping to a 3.3 L+3 rating with Adults 18-49, marking a 6% increase over its week-earlier debut (3.1 rating) to stand as the only new scripted program this season to build over its premiere telecast. The new
ABC drama grew to 11.0 million Total Viewers after 3 days of TV playback.
"America's Funniest Home Videos" (7:00-8:00 p.m. - 5.4 million and 1.1/4 in AD18-49):
At 7:00 p.m., ABC's season premiere of "America's Funniest Home Videos" led its non-sports competition on
FOX and was steady with its year-ago season opener (on 10/12/14) in Total Viewers (5.4 million vs. 5.5 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.1/4 vs. 1.2/4). The
ABC unscripted series surged on the half-hour, gaining 1.1 million viewers (4.8 million to 5.9 million) and 63% in Adults 18-49 (0.8/3 to 1.3/4) from start to finish.
"Once Upon a Time" (8:00-9:00 p.m. - 5.2 million and 1.6/5 in AD18-49):
Building 45% on its Adult 18-49 lead-in at 8:00 p.m. opposite the beginning of SNF and
CBS NFL-fueled programming, ABC's "Once Upon a Time" beat Fox's comedies ("The Simpsons"/"Brooklyn 9-9") by 1.2 million viewers (5.4 million vs. 3.0 million) and 14% in young adults (1.6/5 vs. 1.4/4).
"OUAT" was up week to week in Teens 12-17 (+7%) and Kids 2-11 (+10%).
"Blood & Oil" (9:00-10:00 p.m. - 3.8 million and 0.8/2 in AD18-49):
At 9:00 p.m.,
ABC freshman drama "Blood & Oil" delivered 36% more viewers in the hour than Fox's comedies (3.8 million vs. 2.8 million for "Family Guy"/"The Last Man on Earth").
"Quantico" (10:00-11:00 p.m. - 5.7 million and 1.6/5 in AD18-49):
Spiking over its lead-in for the 3rd straight week at 10:00 p.m. (+100%), ABC's "Quantico" beat CBS' dramas in the hour by 60% in Adults 18-49 (1.6/5 vs. 1.0/3 for "The Good Wife"/"CSI: Cyber").
"Quantico" continued to improve sharply on ABC's year-ago delivery with "Revenge" in the hour (4.7 million and 1.2/3 on 10/12/14) in Total Viewers (+21%) and Adults 18-49 (+33%).
A note about DVR penetration: DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample is currently at 48% in U.S. TV Homes. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which are increasingly not reflected in the overnight Live + Same Day numbers. As a result, the Live + 7 Day ratings are the most accurate measure to gauge the size of the TV audience.
