ABC's AMERICAN IDOL Improves Its Monday Slot and Boosts THE GOOD DOCTOR by 38%  Image

ABC Monday Prime (8:00-11:00 p.m. - 8.8 million and 1.8/7 in AD18-49):
Featuring "American Idol" and the return of "The Good Doctor" from the prior week's preemption, ABC nearly tied "The Voice"-led NBC for No. 1 on Monday night in Adults 18-49 (1.8/7 vs. 1.9/7). ABC moved ahead of NBC at 10:00 p.m., as ABC's "The Good Doctor" came back to defeat "Good Girls" by wide marginsin viewers and young adults. ABC's "American Idol" and "The Good Doctor" tied as Monday's No. 2 show in Adults 18-49 (1.8/7). ABC's younger-skewing lineupwon on Monday over NBC with Adults 18-34 (+9% - 1.2/6 vs. 1.1/6).

  • ABC's Monday was up from the same night last year with "The Bachelor" finale by 7% in viewers (8.8 million vs. 8.2 million).


"American Idol" (8:00-10:00 p.m. - 8.4 million and 1.8/7 in AD18-49):
Opposite NBC's "The Voice" from 8:00-10:00 p.m., "American Idol" improved the 2-hour time period for ABC over its L+SD season average for "Dancing"/"The Bachelor" by 6% in Total Viewers (8.4 million vs. 7.9 million) and by 20% in Adults 18-49 (1.8/7 vs. 1.5/6). "Idol" tied "The Voice" as Monday's No. 1 TV show with Men 18-34 and Male Teens 12-17.

"The Good Doctor" (10:00-11:00 p.m. - 9.8 million and 1.8/7 in AD18-49):
At 10:00 p.m., ABC's "The Good Doctor" came back to dominate the hour and beat NBC's "Good Girls" by 64% in Adults 18-49 (1.8/7 vs. 1.1/4). "The Good Doctor's" lead over "Good Girls" will become even more pronounced once delayed viewing is included. In L+3, "The Good Doctor" sees its Adult 18-49 number jump by +1.4 rating points, while "Good Girls" gets just a +0.4 rating lift over L+SD. ABC's "The Good Doctor" was also the most-watched show overall in Monday's 10 o'clock hour, leading by 5.1 million viewers over "Good Girls" (9.8 million vs. 4.7 million). In L+3, "The Good Doctor" adds +5.3 million viewers on average, compared to +1.4 million for "Good Girls."

  • "The Good Doctor" rose 26% in Total Viewers and 38% in Adults 18-49 from its last telecast two weeks ago, posting the ABC freshman drama'sbest numbers since November - since 11/20/17.
