"World News" turned in Adult 25-54 gains compared to both the previous week (1.761 million on w/o 8/5/13) and the year-ago week (1.755 million on w/o 8/13/12). In fact, "World News" stood as the only evening newscast to build on its news demo audience year to year, as both the "CBS Evening News" (-15%) and "NBC "Nightly News" (-14%) posted double-digit losses.
World News" beat NBC's "Nightly News" in Adults 25-54 twice during the week, ranking
No. 1 on Tuesday (+30,000 - 2.149 million vs. 2.119 million) and Thursday (+240,000 - 1.878 million vs. 1.638 million). In 4 of the last 5 weeks, "World News" has beaten "Nightly News" at least two times head to head during the course of a week.
In addition, "World News" scored the week's No. 1 newscast in Adults 25-54 with its Tuesday airing. Further, Thursday's head-to-head victory produced "World News'" largest single-day advantage over a "Nightly News" telecast in nearly 5 years - since 11/18/08, based on regular telecasts.
In Total Viewers, "World News" was the most-watched evening newscast on Tuesday, leading "NBC Nightly News" by +152,000 (7.735 million vs. 7.583 million).
Week to week, "World News" significantly reduced its gaps with "NBC Nightly News" in both Total Viewers (-42%, 299,000 vs. 518,000) and Adults 25-54 (-63%, 91,000 vs. 246,000).
Year to year, "World News" slashed its margins with "Nightly News" by more than half in Total Viewers (-61%, 299,000 vs. 769,000) and by more than three-quarters in Adults 25-54 (-78%, 91,000 vs. 416,000).
Season to date, "World News" has increased its Total Viewing audience (+2%) compared to the same point last season, drawing its most-watched season in 2 years - since the 2010-11 season. "World News" narrowed its margins by double digits with "NBC Nightly News" among both Total Viewers (-31%) and Adults 25-54 (-26%) to post its smallest margins (751,000 and 289,000, respectively) with the
NBC program in 5 years- since the 2007-08 season.
