Acclaimed actress Cynthia Nixon delivers a triumphant performance as the great 19th century American poet Emily Dickinson in the richly detailed biographical portrait A QUIET PASSION, written and directed by the renowned British filmmaker Terence Davies (The Deep Blue Sea).

In a highly lauded star turn, Cynthia Nixon (Sex and The City franchise) personifies the wit, intellectual independence and pathos of the poet whose GENIUS only came to be recognized after her death. A QUIET PASSION exquisitely evokes Dickinson's deep attachment to her close-knit family along with the manners, mores and spiritual convictions of her time that she struggled with and transcended in her poetry, leading to her later years as a brilliant but reclusive and unrecognized artist.

Also featured in the film are such talents as Jennifer Ehle (Contagion, Zero Dark Sixty) and Keith Carradine (TV's Madame Secretary), who take on the roles of Emily's sister and father, respectively.

The poetry of Emily Dickinson was previously featured in Terence Davies' work in his 2008 visual ode to Liverpool Of Time and The City, which contained Davies reading Dickinson Poem 301. Several years later, when Davies decided he wanted to tell Dickinson's story, he had only one actress in mind for the role of Emily.

"I wrote the screenplay with Cynthia in mind," Davies said. "It was the kind of dream casting you hope for. I never, for a moment, imagined my wishes would materialize."

For her part, Cynthia Nixon, who became officially attached to the project back in 2012, was enthralled by the opportunity to portray one of the world's most revered poets.

"She wrote so many poems, almost 1800 poems. They're intensely personal," said Nixon, herself a Dickinson aficionado. "Some of them are very ecstatic, and some of them are deeply sad, and some of them are both of those things at once, and sometimes you feel as if she is speaking directly to you. I guess I've always felt a kinship to her."

Following its recent national theatrical rollout, Music Box Films Home Entertainment will release A QUIET PASSION on Blu-ray and DVD for the first time on July 11,2017 (prebook June 6, 2017). Arriving on disc with bonus materials that include a Q&A with Terence Davies and Cynthia Nixon and a behind-the-scenes featurette, the Blu-ray and DVD carry the suggested retail prices of $34.95 and $29.95, respectively.
An official selection at major film festivals in Toronto, New York and Chicago, A QUIET PASSION has proven to be both an audience and critical favorite, garnering NYT Critics' Picks, Village Voice Critics' Pick and Certified Fresh by Rotten Tomatoes.
