5th Annual Picture Farm Film Festival in Brooklyn Announces Lineup and Mentorship Jury

Picture Farm Film Festival has announced THE LINEUP for its 5th annual festival, taking place April 13 - 14 at the Wythe Hotel in Brooklyn.

This year, the Picture Farm Film Festival launches the Director Mentorship Program, inspired by their long-standing company ethos for developing and fostering new talent. It will be a year-long program designed to amplify the underrepresented voices in advertising by providing them with the support they need to jumpstart their career in commercial production. This experience includes guided mentorship in commercial production and post-production, access to Picture Farm's new office in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, exposure to pitching and directing in an agency setting and the possibility to direct content they are developing in-house.

A diverse slate of film and advertising industry experts will select the winner of the Director Mentorship Program. The jury includes film producer Lisa Muskat (The Sitter, Compliance), Julian Katz (Head of Production, Mother USA), Meghan Oretsky (Curator, Vimeo/Ladies with Lenses), Stephanie Baptist (Curator, Medium Tings), Danielle Earle (Writer/Director), along with Johnny Fego and Jacqueline Thompson from Picture Farm. These experts will also share their advice and wisdom to a wider audience through a series of Q&As on the Picture Farm Film Festival website that will launch in the coming weeks.

195 Lewis - Saturday, April 14, 5:00pm - This segment will launch a new web series by up-and-coming director Chanelle Aponte Pearson. The series explores what it's like to be Queer, Black and sometimes poly in NYC. The screening will conclude with a Q&A with Pearson.

Since 2014, the Picture Farm Film Festival has dedicated its efforts toward increasing dialogue within the local community by screening passionate films across all lengths and genres. The program celebrates diversity both in front and behind the camera. They showcase films that foster meaningful conversations long after each screening. They understand that it's hard for emerging filmmakers to get an audience for their films, and therefore the submission process is free.

Picture Farm Film Festival has served as a launching pad for many emerging filmmakers forging their path in the Brooklyn community. Alumni include up-and-coming filmmaker Brittany "B.Monét" Fennell whose short Q.U.E.E.N. screened in 2017, and was named a directing fellow for Film Independent's residency program "Project Involve," and was also a Horizon Award winner at Sundance and a recipient of the Adrienne Shelly Foundation grant. Jennifer Galvin and Sachi Cunningham's 2017 opening night feature The Memory of Fish was nominated for a Widescreen Panda Award, AKA "Green Oscars," the highest accolade in the wildlife film and TV space. Rachel Grady & Heidi Ewing, who screened their short film The World Is As Big Or As Small As You Make It in 2015, currently have their latest documentary film, One of Us, focusing on New York's Hasidic community, available for streaming on Netflix. Their past films include Jesus Camp (Oscar nominee), 12th & Delaware (Peabody winner) and DETROPIA (Sundance and Emmy winner). Earle Sebastian, who screened his feature film Stolen Moments Red Hot + Cool in 2015 is a seasoned music video and documentary director who has worked with such top artists as Alicia Keys, Madonna, Jill Scott, Missy Elliott and Timbaland.
