From stingrays attacking swimmers off the coast of San Diego, to an alligator biting off a boy's arm in Florida, to shark attacks, raccoon attacks and even a tiger eating a man at a Copenhagen zoo, the summer of 2012 is turning out to be the summer of wild animal attacks. Why and when do they attack? And are we underestimating how wild some wild animals really are?

"When Animals Strike Back" takes viewers across the USA to meet people working and living every day with wild animals, and to South Africa with new details on the attack and condition of American Andrew Oberle, who was viciously mauled by chimps inside a chimpanzee sanctuary. The hour also includes reports on the safety of our zoos and animal parks, on why more and more Americans are trying to domesticate wild animals in their homes, and on animal trainers caught in the cross-hairs.

Anchored by Chris Cuomo with reporting from Dan Harris, Jay Schadler and David Wright, "When Animals Strike Back" airs on "20/20" on ABC, FRIDAY, JULY 20 as the second part (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) of a two-hour edition of the program.

David Sloan is executive producer of "20/20."

ABC News' acclaimed series "20/20" has distinguished itself as one of the most esteemed news programs in broadcast journalism. Amid the heated, competitive environment of primetime entertainment, "20/20" has demonstrated its ability to consistently attract a significant segment of the viewing audience by offering viewers more choices and more chances to learn about the world around them. For over three decades, "20/20" has continued to combine hard-hitting investigative reports, newsmaker interviews and compelling human interest and feature stories that have changes lives.

The program is co-anchored by the broadcast team of Elizabeth Vargas and Christopher Cuomo, both award-winning journalists.
