The CAPA Summer Movie Series, the longest-running classic film series in America, begins its 45th season at the historic Ohio Theatre (39 E. State St.) on Friday, June 5, with the Alfred HITCHCOCK classic, Notorious (1946) starring Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman. Hitchcock's censor-skirting action adventure will have four showings over the weekend to kick off the nine-week Series.
Hitchcock's Notorious (1946)
Friday, June 5, 7:30 pm
Saturday, June 6, 7:30 pm
Sunday, June 7, 2 pm & 7:30 pm
Cary Grant, Ingrid Bergman, Claude Rains
THE MASTER of Suspense perfectly combines mystery, intrigue, romance, suspense, and plenty of action when Bergman marries the head of a Brazilian spy ring in order to help secret agent Grant.
The 2015 Series will feature 11 premieres, a silent film with live musical accompaniment, two Saturday mornings of classic cartoons, and four double features including the return of "Fright Nite Friday."
On Friday, June 26, local TV and radio legend Fritz the Nite Owl returns to host the "Fright Nite Friday" double feature-Son of Frankenstein (1939) and The Brides of Dracula (1960). Patrons will have the chance to meet Fritz in the lobby before and after the screenings, and he'll also introduce both films.
The 2015 silent film presentation will be The Kid (1921) and feature live musical accompaniment by organist Clark Wilson on the Ohio Theatre's famed "Mighty Morton" theatre organ. The silent film will be shown Thursday and Friday, July 16 and 17.
The popular Cartoon Capers also return on Saturday, June 13, and Saturday, July 11. Both showings will begin at 10 am and feature classic Warner Brothers and MGM cartoons.
