Members of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences are racing to meet the August 26 ballot deadline so Ernst & Young LLP can begin the process of tabulating the votes to determine the winners of the 65 th Primetime Emmy Awards.
The Awards will be telecast live on CBS on Sunday, September 22, 2013, 5:00 p.m. PT/8:00 p.m. ET from the Nokia Theatre at L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles, California.
The firm, a leader in assurance, tax, transaction, advisory services and strategic growth markets, has been overseeing the balloting process for the Primetime Emmy Awards for the past 25 years.
"As part of our renewed commitment to building a better working world, our efforts within the entertainment industry are aimed at giving companies and organizations the tools and guidance needed for them to provide the best possible entertainment products and services," said Andy Sale, Ernst & Young LLP lead partner serving the Television Academy. "During our quarter-century commitment to the Emmy Awards, we have maintained an unwavering standard of quality in managing thetabulation process."
Every year, the firm takes numerous steps to preserve the integrity of the tabulation process as well as the safeguarding of the results until they are announced live to the world. Precautions regularly taken include having multiple sets of sealed envelopes transported to the ceremony in separate cars, triple-checking all results, keeping control of each envelope until handed to the presenter, hand-sealing every envelope and internally printing the winners' envelopes so the results never leave the firm's Los Angeles office. In the 25 years Ernst & Young LLP has been handling the Emmy Awards, there has not been a security breach in the balloting process.
This year, the envelopes containing the names of the winners will once again make the ceremonial march down the red carpet in a briefcase handcuffed to a senior firm representative.
