The Smurfs are making a tiny impression with THE SMURFS 2's blue first week in theaters. After five days, the movie's total domestic gross is sitting at $27.8 million, according to Deadline.com. This is far behind the $35.6 million the 2011 Smurfs pic drew in its first three days.

Sony originally projected $100 million for THE SMURFS 2's worldwide takings after this weekend, but the movie has brought in $80.3 million so far. Despite the sequel's poor numbers, because the original Smurfs movie did well globally, SMURFS 3 is already set for 2015. Maybe third time's the charm for Sony's tiny friends.

Returning cast for THE SMURFS 2 includes Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays, Sofia Vergara, with Katy Perry as Smurfette and Hank Azaria as Gargamel. Brendan Gleeson joins the cast as Victor. The film is directed by Raja Gosnell and produced by Jordan Kerner. The screenplay is by J. David Stem & David N. Weiss and Jay Scherick & David Ronn and Karey Kirkpatrick with a story by J. David Stem & David N. Weiss & Jay Scherick & David Ronn, based on the Characters and Works of Peyo.

2 GUNS, on the other hand, came in at No. 1 this weekend with $27.4 million, above Emmett/Furla Films' $22 million projection. Starring Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg, the action film cost $61 million to produce. It is based on the comic book by Steven Grant and is directed by Baltasar Kormakur, with script by Blake Masters.

Fox and Marvel's THE WOLVERINE is in second place in its second week on the big screen, with $21.7 million for this weekend, bringing its domestic gross to $95 million and worldwide total to $255.2 million.
