ABC has picked up a pilot from 12 YEARS A SLAVE screenwriter John Ridley. Titled AMERICAN CRIME, the drama "examine the personal lives of the players involved in a racially charged trial as their worlds are turned upside down."

Straight from 12 YEARS A SLAVE's Golden Globe win, Ridley is set to write the script for AMERICAN CRIME and executive produce alongside Michael McDonald.
Ridley's other TV writing credits include THE WANDA SYKES SHOW, BARBERSHOP, THIRD WATCH, PLATINUM, and the TV movie DA BRICK. He is currently working on a re-write of the 1959 classic film BEN-HUR and has also written RED TAILS and ALL IS BY MY SIDE for the big screen.
