As Deadline reported this evening, Warner Brothers has officially landed the rights to create a feature film centered on Mickey Spillane's literary private inspector, Mike Hammer. The film is set to be a co-produced by Film 360 and Thunder Road.
Hammer starred in 13 of Spillane's novels, debuting in 1947 with the novel I, THE JURY. Later, Spillane teamed up with Max Allan Collins to pen six more Hammer stories. Hammer is long credited as being one of the first tough, "action heros" in pop culture, inspiring the characters of James Bond and Dirty Harry.
There's no word yet on whether the setting will stick true to the original era of Hammer's adventures, or who will take on the role.
Max Allan Collins and Mickey's wife, Jane Spillane, are set as executive producers.
