Emmy Rossum took to her Facebook page to announce that she will be leaving the Showtime Series. In the post, Rossum says, "I know you will continue on without me, for now. There is much more Gallagher story to be told. I will always be rooting for my family. Try not to think of me as gone, just think of me as moving down the block."
Rossum goes on to talk about the show saying, "This kind of stability, this family, has nurtured me and made feel safe enough to stretch and grow creatively. The way John Wells has shepherded me as an actress, and more recently how he's encouraged me wholeheartedly as a director and a writer, has been an honor and a privilege."
Shameless is set to premiere its ninth season on September 9th, and this will be Rossum's last season with the show.
No official word has been put out yet by Showtime regarding her departure.
Shameless follows Chicagoan Frank Gallagher is the proud single dad of six smart, industrious, independent kids, who without him would be...perhaps better off. When Frank's not at the bar spending what little money they have, he's passed out on the floor. But the kids have found ways to grow up in spite of him. They may not be like any family you know, but they make no apologies for being exactly who they are.
