Variety is reporting that the "Mad Men" musical revue that played the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles last month as a benefit for the L.A. chapter of the Recording Academy will continue in some form with future dates being planned, but it is in the very early stages of development explains the trade paper.
'A Night on the Town With Mad Men' featured musical numbers from the show's early '60s era and a dash of Rat Pack-esque shtick performed by supporting cast members of the Emmy-winning AMC drama reveals Variety.
The plans for future dates are still very much in the formative stages, but it's understood Lionsgate is hoping to book a date early next year in Las Vegas and New York. Bookings in London and Australia are also being considered, as the second season of "Mad Men" will be starting then in those two venues. "Mad Men" is also planning for its third season on AMC next year, though creator-exec producer Matthew Weiner's contract is still being negotiated reports Variety.
The cast who would participate in the shows is still being worked out. Many of the "Mad Men" actors who didn't take the stage at the El Rey are now interested in joining the performances.
The Oct. 21 show at the El Rey, billed as "A Night on the Town With 'Mad Men,' " was hosted by Joel Murray and featured Broadway favorites Bryan Batt and Robert Morse, Colin Hanks, Patrick Fischler and Maggie Siff all singing a set list that ranged from early Dylan to pop and jazz standards.
The El Rey event was created by "Mad Men" composer David Carbonara, who led the 13-piece orchestra and presumably would reprise the same role for the additional dates.
Lionsgate declined comment to Variety.
"Mad Men" is a dramatic series set "in the 1960s on Madison Avenue at the fictional Sterling Cooper Advertising Agency, which 'sells everything from cigarettes to political candidates,'" describes press notes.
