Theatre du Chatelet to Present SWEENEY TODD, Domingo et al. '10-'11

Paris's Théâtre du Châtelet will present the musicals SHOW BOAT, MY FAIR LADY, and SWEENEY TODD as part of its 2010-2011 season, the theatre has announced on its official website

The theatre will present Jerome Kern's and Oscar Hammerstein II's SHOW BOAT from October 2 to October 19, 2010.  This classic musical play, first presented in 1927, deals with themes of love and race in the lives of the denizens of a show boat between 1880 and 1927.  The production will star Janelle Visagie and Mandie de Villiers-Schute (Magnolia), Blake Fischer (Ravenal), Malcom Terrey (Captain Andy), Diane Wilson (Parthy), Angela Kerrison (Julie), Otto Maidi (Joe), and Miranda Tini (Queenie). 

The theatre will present Alan Jay Lerner's and Frederick Loewe's MY FAIR LADY from December 9, 2010 to January 2, 2011.  The musical, first presented in 1956, is based on Shaw's PYGMALION and tells the story of Professor Henry Higgins's attempts to make cockney flower girl Eliza Dolittle into a lady.  The production will star Sarah Gabriel and Christine Arand (Eliza Dolittle), Alex Jennings (Henry Higgins), Margaret Tyzack (Mrs. Higgins), Nicolas Le Prevost (Colonel Pickering), Donald Maxwell (Alfred Dolittle), Ed Lyon and Pascal Charbonneau (Freddy Eynsford-Hill), and Jenny Galloway (Mrs. Pearce). 

The theatre will present Stephen Sondheim's SWEENEY TODD from April 22 to May 21, 2011.  The musical is the story of a murderous barber who slits his customers' throats and his neighbor who bakes the bodies into pies.  The production will star Rodney Gilfry and Franco Pomponi (Sweeney Todd), Deanne Meek (Mrs. Lovett), Jonathan Best (Judge Turpin), John Graham-Hall (Beadle Bamford), David Curry (Pirelli), Nicholas Garrett (Anthony Hope), Rebecca Bottone (Joanna), Pascal Charbonneau (Tobias 'Toby' Ragg), and Rebecca de Pont Davies (The Beggar Woman). 

The theatre's 2010-2011 season will include many other performances, including numerous concerts and a production of the opera IL POSTINO starring Plácido Domingo as Pablo Neruda.  For more information, visit www.chatelet-theatre.com.
