The Opera Orchestra of New York Cancels SIMON BOCCANEGRA, 3/7

The Opera Orchestra of New York Board of Directors today announced that it has cancelled the March 7 opera-in-concert presentation of Verdi's Simon Boccanegra. The loss of anticipated funding has made it impossible for the company to move forward with the planned production.

"We regret having to cancel the upcoming presentation of Simon Boccanegra, but as a Board we have a mandate to be fiscally responsible, and with the loss of funding for this production we were given no choice but to cancel the concert," stated Board Chairman, Norman Raben. "The Opera Orchestra of New York has a long legacy of presenting operas in concert on New York's greatest stages and our primary goal is to maintain the company's vision and ensure the longevity of the institution."

Plans for the Opera Orchestra of New York's 2012-13 season will be announced at a later date.
Patrons who purchased tickets for Simon Boccanegra through the Opera Orchestra of New York may donate the value of the ticket to the organization, use the ticket value towards future Opera Orchestra of New York productions, or receive a refund.
