The North Carolina Opera Announces Casting Updates for the 2014-2015 Season

On Monday, June 30 the North Carolina Opera announced the exciting upcoming 2014/15 season at a kick-off event at CAM Raleigh. A large crowd of fans and friends of the organization eagerly gathered as NCO Artistic Director & Principal Conductor Timothy Myers announced the new season, which includes performances of Tristan and Isolde, La traviata, Don Giovanni and Approaching Ali.

A few casting updates to this season announcement have since been made. North Carolina Opera is proud to welcome Tenor Jay Hunter Morris to perform the role of Tristan in November. Morris was slated to perform with the NC Opera in last year's sold out Wagner concert but unfortunately had to cancel due to an illness. Local opera fans will be thrilled to welcome this talent to the Raleigh stage this season at last. Read this interview with Jay Hunter Morris from the News and Observer in 2013. Morris takes over the role from the previously announced Clifton Forbis.

Tenor Mario Chang will join North Carolina Opera in the lead role of Alfredo for the second show of the season, La traviata. Chang, a participant in the Metropolitan Opera Lindemann Young Artists Program, was the winner of the 48th Edition of 'Francisco Viñas' International Singing Competition in 2011 and is fresh from performing as the Italian Tenor in Der Rosenkavalier at the Metropolitan Opera last season. North Carolina Opera is also excited to bring Candace Evans onto the creative team as stage director of La traviata. Evan's directing work on North Carolina Opera's 2011 production of Carmen elevated the highly acclaimed performance experience and delighted audiences.

North Carolina Opera's 2014/15 season includes a concert performance of the Prelude and Act II from Wagner's monumental Tristan and Isolde (November 9, 2014 at Meymandi Concert Hall in Raleigh) fully-staged productions of Verdi's heartbreaking favorite La traviata (two performances,February 27 & March 1, 2015 at Memorial Auditorium in Raleigh) and Mozart's dark tragicomedyDon Giovanni (five performances, April 18-26, 2015 at the A.J. Fletcher Opera Theater in Raleigh); and a non-subscription special event performances of D.J. Sparr's contemporary operaApproaching Ali (Winter 2015, dates and venue to be announced).

Subscription tickets for North Carolina Opera's 2014/15 season are on sale now. Subscription packages range from $77 to $249 and include Tristan and Isolde, La traviata, and Don Giovanni.
