On May 15, 2010, at 7:00 p.m., Seville comes to the Bay area.  St. Petersburg Opera is hosting a fundraiser to benefit the opera company and as a prelude to its upcoming production of Bizet's Carmen, which is set in Seville, Spain.  Carmen will be presented June 4, 5, and 6 at the Palladium Theater in downtown St. Petersburg.  The cast includes Cherry Duke, Mark Nicolson, John Tsotsoros, David Lara, and Susan Hellman, all newcomers to the St. Petersburg Opera company. In addition, local singers Todd Donovan, Sara Peeples, and Bryce Westervelt will have roles in the production.

The fund-raiser, to be held at a waterfront private residence in Seminole, will feature musical performances by the cast of the Carmen and will offer Spanish-influenced food and drink, a silent auction, and fortune telling by Madame Maria Francesca.  The master of ceremonies will be SPO Artistic and Executive Director Mark Sforzini.  Watch out for gypsies, toreadors, and maybe a bull or two.

Tickets for this event are $125 per person.

Reservations and payment must be made in advance by calling the SPO office at  727-823-2040.
