The San Diego Opera has reached a settlement of over $1 million with former general director Ian Campbell and chief fundraiser, Anna Spira Campbell.
According to tax documents released Friday, May 1, the agreement was reached in a private settlement in July, 2014. Said documents indicate that the individual breakdown is as follows: $276,000 to Campbell, $812,521 to Spira Campbell.
In a released statement, the San Diego Opera said,
"All such matters related to these settlements were resolved through mediation in June of 2014.
"A friend of the Opera, who has chosen to remain anonymous, donated the funds with the specific instruction that they be used to resolve all issues with the transition in leadership so that no other donors' funds would be used for this purpose."
The settlement came about following the March 2014 decision among the San Diego Opera's board of directors to close altogether. Following an outcry from patrons, the group reversed their decision.
