Anna Meadors's Manifesto On The Ledge is a world-premiere chamber opera for three voices and a six-piece instrumental ensemble commissioned by Rhymes With Opera. The story centers around Melinda, a salesperson in a dead-end job, who has grown unhappy at work and fantasizes about her days in the Navy. Her lover Ronaire, a mysterious poet and thinker, is puzzled by her growing ennui. Ronaire and Melinda discover unexpected truths about their lovers when Melinda goes on personal strike, forcing Ronaire to go to work instead. Frederic Rzewski's Attica and Matthew Tripplett's I Promise to Be Good round out the program.
Composer and saxophonist Anna Meadors is one of the founding members of the Baltimore-based ensemble Three Red Crowns, which performs original compositions drawing from minimalism, classical, jazz and rock music. Her music has been performed at the NOVA Festival, Artscape, Baltimore's Creative Alliance; the Delancey (NYC), Spectrum (NYC); Redtail (Boston); and Café Nola (MD). Meadors' pieces are featured on Three Red Crowns' first two albums and the Baltimore City Paper's Summer 2013 Music Playlist. Her improvisation is featured on jazz-rock trio Joy On Fire's debut album, as well as Flying Dog Music, vol. 1. For more information, visit annameadors.com
