Regina Weingarten Elected to LA Opera Board of Directors

Plácido Domingo, LA Opera's Eli and Edythe Broad General Director, announced that Regina Weingarten was elected today to the company's board of directors.

"Regina Weingarten, a newcomer to Los Angeles who has been a distinguished supporter of the arts around the world, is an important addition to our board," said Mr. Domingo. "I welcome her to our community, and I am thrilled that we will have the opportunity to benefit from her expertise as we build the future of LA Opera."

"Regina Weingarten's impressive lifelong dedication to the arts has included hands-on involvement with the great opera houses of Paris and London," noted Marc Stern, the chairman of LA Opera's board of directors. "Her extensive experience will be deeply valuable to us as we continue to solidify our company's reputation as one of the world's most important opera houses."

Born in Portugal and raised in Paris, Regina Weingarten attended Stanford University on an exchange program, then received her doctorate in Portuguese Language and Civilizations from the Sorbonne-Paris IV. Fluent in four languages, she worked as a translator for the movie industry in France. She has been a board member of Les Talens Lyriques in Paris, the Paris Opera and Ballet (Association pour le Rayonnement de L'Opéra de Paris), Ecole Jeannine Manuel in Paris and London, the School of American Ballet in New York, the American Friends of the Louvre and the American Friends of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, and an honorary director of the Royal Opera House in London. She frequently works closely with organizations' artistic directors and staff, helping to create meaningful programs. In recognition of her significant contributions to the arts, she received the prestigious distinction of Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur, France's Legion of Honor Award. After many years living in Paris, she and her husband-Gregory Annenberg Weingarten, vice-president and co-director of the Annenberg Foundation-moved their family to Santa Monica in June, so that Mr. Weingarten could be closer to the Los Angeles headquarters of the Annenberg Foundation.
