Our annual December productions have become synonymous with Christmas and the start of the silly season. As Harriet Cunningham wrote in the Sydney Morning Herald in 2006, 'When the fairy lights go up in Martin Place, the house lights go down in City Recital Hall as this resilient and enormously talented bunch of artists present their annual foray into neglected operatic treasures.'

The great news is that this year, we're also celebrating Christmas in July as we present The Chimney Sweep by Salieri. Now it's only six months between drinks! You no longer have to wait a full 12 months to hear Pinchgut do what we do best as we bring you two productions in 2014. More information about tickets can be found below.

Don't delay - demand for tickets has been strong, and we'd love you to join us for this landmark year, with twice as much fabulous music making and pure entertainment.

An Italian chimney sweep seduces the women of the household in which he works, in order to bargain for his future. Composed by Antonio Salieri, The Chimney Sweep is a sexy, fun comedy filled with characters all shamelessly indulging their appetites.

Bribery and blackmail, anarchic domestic affairs, and venality reigns. But most of all, more wonderful music from the 18th century that you've probably never heard before.

The Chimney Sweep (Der Rauchfangkehrer) gives Pinchgut audiences another opportunity to hear a rarely performed opera. And for those whose knowledge of Salieri comes from the excellent film Amadeus, Pinchgut is compelled to report that much of the story in the film is nonsense. Mozart's murderer? Pah! Pinchgut's production of The Chimney Sweep will restore Salieri's good name, and his music!

Erin Helyard - conductor
Mark Gaal - director
